I have wanted to own a brindle whippet ever since I saw my first Lucian Freud painting featuring his brindle whippet called Pluto. Lucian Freud purchased his whippet in 1988 and made his first etching when Pluto was a little puppy. Pluto inspired his work so much he is even quoted as saying this: “I’m really interested in people as animals…Part of my liking to work with them naked is for that reason…I like people to look as natural and as physically at ease as animals, as Pluto my whippet.” Whippets made the perfect artists dog as they are wonderful subjects to paint. They are long and elongated creating fantastic shapes in whatever position they lay in, they also pose in the same position for ages, as they are notoriously lazy. When I bought Pegasus it was love instantly. She is the most arrogant dog, everything is always on her terms. She always seems to know how to maximize every moment in life to her advantage. This drawing is a pencil sketch and study which I did of her before I created a painting. It is of her laying on her sheepskin rug in my bedroom. In this drawing she is elegant and aloof, two of her most prominent characteristics which I think comes across in this pencil portrait.

Main Colours: Monochrome, beige
